Day five and Cannes Lions has come and gone. I feel like this festival has flown by so fast. Today was more of a lazy day, but I did go to the Saatchi and Saatchi New Directors Showcase. It was definitely not what I was expecting. I’m so used to the standard Cannes Lions seminar that’s been going on the last few days that their light show and intense music shocked me a little bit. However, I did find it very interesting. It definitely held my attention. While some of the videos were really weird others were actually really good. For example, Michal Socha’s film was purely about sex and very oddly animated. I personally didn’t find it very appealing. Also, I thought the video about the talking butts was in very poor taste. I just really don’t think that it is funny or pleasant to look at. Most of them were very good though.
After Saatchi and Saatchi Paige, Whitney, and I went to a global marketing workshop. I felt bad because I think it was obvious to everyone in the room how bored I was. It’s not that the speakers weren’t good, but I just couldn’t find anything relevant to me in the workshop. If I worked in global marketing I probably would have found it very useful, but considering the fact that I don’t I found it very hard to pay attention. It was more specific advice than I needed.
The last activity of the day was our meeting with Amr Salama. He was very interesting and was very passionate about his beliefs. I found him easy to listen to and think that he genuinely cares about the future of his people. I also liked the tie in between the revolution and social media. It is crazy to think that facebook and twitter can have such big impacts on political revolutions.
Good overviews of your days. If you can, go into more detail -- be more descriptive and critical in your writing. Report and comment and don't assume we have seen everything you have.
